Jeremy Russell

Senior Associate

Dubai

Jeremy is a Senior Associate who specialises in international arbitration for the firm’s construction and engineering clients in the Middle East. With over 10 years of specialist experience advising on all forms of dispute resolution in the Middle East, he is recognised as a Leading Associates for Construction by Legal 500, with particular recognition for his experience advising on energy projects, and is ranked as a Recommended Practitioner for Construction by Lexology (formerly Who’s Who Legal).

Jeremy regularly acts for developers, contractors, O&M operators, consultants, and subcontractors in relation to high-value international arbitrations arising out of construction projects across all major industries, including oil and gas, power generation, highways, airports, mixed-use developments, railways and entertainment and leisure. He has expertise in claims relating to delay and disruption, quantum, technical defects and breaches of standard of care. Jeremy has represented clients in ad hoc arbitration proceedings as well as institutional arbitrations conducted under the rules of the ICC, DIAC, LCIA, KCAC, SCCA, UNCITRAL and ADIAC.

Jeremy is regularly instructed to provide pre-action merits assessments of claims and counterclaims, and is consistently recognised for delivering advice that is both commercially minded and technically astute. He also has significant experience providing project advisory support to the firm’s contractor clients on major EPC projects across the Middle East, including the Metro Rail Project 2020, the world’s largest solar energy park, a landmark gaming and leisure development in the UAE, a multi-billion UAE dirham hotel and mixed-use development in Ras Al Khaimah, and a multi-million Saudi Riyal hotel development in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as well as a range of oil and gas, infrastructure and mixed-use developments across the UAE, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

His non-contentious experience includes advising on bespoke and FIDIC-based construction contracts, professional appointments, joint venture agreements, and EPC, BOT, BOOT, DBFO and PPP contracts, as well as offtake agreements, power purchase agreements, collateral warranties, bonds, guarantees and novation agreements.

Jeremy has also completed secondments with the in-house legal teams of major UAE holding companies, advising on both contentious and non-contentious matters relating to their projects and built assets.
